My name is Hisa Nakajima, owner of Jewellery Wanderlust.
Jewellery Wanderlust is a jewellery brand that mainly uses old stock, antique/vintage gemstones and gemstones mined without human rights violations.
The brand was launched on 20 April 2023.
I would like to tell the story about the brand name, Jewellery Wanderlust.
Wanderlust means 'the urge to travel around the world'. This word first came to me in the middle of the Covid disaster, when I was spending three weeks in forced quarantine in a hotel in Bhutan, where I was travelling. I was not allowed to leave my room and spent my days working from my hotel room.
My favourite pastime then was looking at my jewellery box I had brought with me from Japan. A 100-year-old turquoise necklace from England and a diamond ring made in Taiwan that I had inherited from my mother - my own personal treasures gave me healing and strength every day.
The word 'wanderlust' came to mind when I compared the jewellery from all over the world sitting in my box with my lifestyle, which changes from one country to another.
I have lived in France, England, Bhutan, Zimbabwe, Senegal, the USA and Taiwan, in addition to my original country, Japan. I take advantage of my peculiar lifestyle to research gemstones and unique craftsmanship in different countries.
In addition, the gemstones handled by Jewellery Wanderlust are old stock, antique and vintage, as well as gemstones mined without human rights violations. Due to these characteristics, it is difficult to find suppliers in the usual gemstone trading hubs (India and Thailand, etc.), and we source gems one by one from a number of small suppliers and mines scattered across the world. In this sense, the gemstones are gathered at the end of the "wanderlust".
